Jan Opletal Halls of Residence Application – procedures and conditions

The Jan Opletal Halls of Residence offers accommodation in double or triple rooms. Accommodation "one person in a room" is allowed exceptionally only in case of free capacity.

The application for the Halls of Residence is submitted together with your application for study. Your application can be submitted only after your nomination is accepted by the University Ostrava.

Accommodation of students ends no later than 30.6. Accommodation during the summer holidays, i.e. in the period 1.7.-31.8. is allowed to students only in the case of free capacity and after prior agreement with the Head of the accommodation office. Accommodation of students is provided for 1 or 2 semesters. Shorter stays only by prior arrangement and in case of free capacity.


Winter semester - please submit your application until 30 th June.
Summer semester
- please submit your application until 30 th November.
Applications received after the deadline might not be accepted.
Accommodation confirmation with further instructions will be send to your email address by:

  • Winter semester - 15th July of the given year.
  • Summer semester - 15th December of the given year.

The requirement for a visa

If you are a student with the Visa requirement, please, do not forget to mark off the field: „I require a confirmation of accommodation to process the visa” at your application. The dormitory will issue the Proof of Accommodation document which needs to be enclosed to your Visa application.

Applications for a visa confirmation should be sent to email:

  1. full time students - . The issuance of the confirmation is subject to the payment of a deposit of CZK 4,000 to the bank account
  2. Erasmus and other short mobilities -


Student who have received the accommodation confirmation and who would like to use the accommodation shall pay a refundable security deposit in the amount 4000 CZK (or its equivalent in your currency) by the following deadlines.

Winter semester - the deposit must be paid until 31st July of the given year.
Summer semester - the deposit must be paid until 31st December of the given year.
In case the deposit is not paid until the deadline, the claim for the accommodation expires.

The student commits to the accommodation by the payment of the refundable security deposit. If the student fails to appear or stays at the Halls of Residence for a period shorter than three calendar months, the security deposit shall be forfeited as a compensation for the booked place.

The deposit will be returned upon termination of accommodation and after payment of all outstanding debts.
