Accommodation for the Academic Year

Accommodation is provided for one academic year on the basis of the Accommodation Approval.

Check-in

Check-in takes place in September according to the information stated in the Accommodation Approval.

Upon arrival, the student electronically signs a fixed-term accommodation contract for one academic year in the ISKAM system.

End of Accommodation

Accommodation ends on the last working day of June of the given academic year.

Application Submission

A new accommodation application must be submitted for each academic year separately.

  • University of Ostrava students submit their applications electronically according to the schedule below.
  • Students of other universities and other applicants submit their applications in person or by e-mail at the dormitory office.

Termination During the Academic Year

Accommodation may also be terminated during the academic year by submitting a written request no later than the 15th day of the month in which the accommodation is to end.

Important: The security deposit is forfeited in full if the accommodation in the given academic year is shorter than 3 calendar months, in accordance with Rector′s Measure No. 176/2022 – Dormitory Regulations.

Accommodation During the Academic Year

If capacity is available, accommodation may also be arranged during the academic year by prior agreement, either in person or by e-mail with the dormitory office.

Summer Accommodation

Summer accommodation is provided subject to capacity and operational availability based on the submitted application.

Summer Accommodation Application Schedule (University of Ostrava Students)

  • 18 February – 13 March
    Applications are accepted electronically only via: ISKAM
    After this deadline, applications may be submitted in person at the dormitory office or by e-mail.
  • By 20 March
    Notification of summer accommodation allocation will be sent.
  • 20 March – 31 May
    Signing of the accommodation addendum electronically in the ISKAM system, or in person at the dormitory office.

Important Information

  • Summer accommodation starts on the first working day of July (or by individual agreement).
  • Summer operation ends on 31 August due to cleaning and preparation of rooms for the regular student accommodation period.
  • The period of summer accommodation must be reported via the electronic application form no later than 13 March.

Accommodation Schedule for Senior Students (upper year)

Application Submission

  • 15 March – 15 April
    Applications are accepted electronically only via: ISKAM
    After this deadline, applications may be submitted in person at the dormitory office or by e-mail.

Accommodation Allocation

  • By 6 May
    Notification of accommodation allocation will be sent to the student′s university e-mail address, including the Accommodation Approval.

Electronic Contract Signing

  • 11 May – 31 August
    Electronic signing of the accommodation contract in the ISKAM system.
    A paid security deposit is required.

Important Information

  • The Accommodation Approval may also be collected by the roommate upon presentation of a written authorization and proof of deposit payment.
  • Accommodation Approvals not collected within the specified period become invalid.
  • Students are required to check in on the date stated in the Accommodation Approval.
  • A different check-in date is possible only by prior agreement with the Head of the Accommodation Services Department.
  • If a student fails to check in during September on the specified date, the security deposit is forfeited in full.

Cancellation of Accommodation Approval

The Accommodation Approval may be cancelled only in writing, either by post to the dormitory address or by e-mail, no later than 15 August.

If the student does not cancel the Accommodation Approval by this deadline, the security deposit is forfeited in full as compensation for the blocked accommodation place and related costs.

Security Deposit

(Rector′s Measure No. 176/2022 – Dormitory Regulations)

  • Senior students already accommodated in the dormitories transfer their deposit to the next academic year and do not need to provide proof of payment again.
  • Senior students who have not yet paid the deposit must ensure that it is credited to the dormitory account no later than 31 May.
  • Without a paid deposit the student will not be allowed to sign the contract electronically.

Accommodation Schedule for First-Year Students and First-Year Follow-up Master′s Students

Application Submission

  • 1 June – 31 July
    Applications are accepted electronically only via: ISKAM
    The application is submitted by a student who has been admitted to study at the University of Ostrava.
    After this deadline, applications may be submitted in person at the dormitory office or by e-mail.

Accommodation Approval

  • By 10 August
    The Accommodation Approval and further instructions will be sent to the e-mail address provided in the application.

Security Deposit Payment

  • 11 August – 31 August

Application for Senior Students

The application is submitted by a student who is already enrolled at the University of Ostrava.

Before submitting the application, please carefully read the Accommodation Information for Senior Students.

After submitting the application, you will receive an automatically generated confirmation e-mail.

If you do not receive the confirmation, your application has not been accepted for processing. In that case, please submit the application again or contact the Accommodation office.

Application for Prospective First-Year Students

The application may be submitted only after admission to study.

Application period: 1 June – 31 July

After submitting the application, you will receive an automatically generated confirmation e-mail.

If you do not receive the confirmation, your application has not been accepted for processing. In that case, please submit the application again or contact the Accommodation office.

Payment of deposit

A student who was provided accommodation at University of Ostrava dorm rooms (J. Opletal Halls of Residence) is required to pay a refundable deposit of CZK 4,000 no later than the dates mentioned in the information above.

A student commits to the accommodation upon completion of the payment of the refundable deposit. If the student fails to check in for an accommodation or the accommodation takes less than three calendar months the deposit shall be forfeited as compensation for the blocked room.

Payment of accommodation fee

The accommodation fee is charged for each full calendar month (even in the case of moving out during the month). The only exception is the month of arrival, when the accommodation fee is charged from the date of check-in.

The accommodation fee is usually due by the 15th day of each month. If the fee is not paid by the end of the calendar month, a late payment penalty will be charged from the first day of the following month (for more information, see the Accommodation Agreement).

Payment can be made online via ISKAM, at the reception desk (by card or in cash), or by bank transfer.

Vacating halls of residence

The student must submit a written Request for Termination of the Accommodation to the  Accommodation Office by the 15th day of the month, in which the student plans to terminate his/her accommodation. He/she then moves out of the residence on the last working day of the month. A student vacates the room in person, during working days and office hours.

When moving out the students must submit the following to Cleaning lady:

  • Tidy room with furniture moved back to its original location
  • Emptied and cleaned wardrobe, bed, desk, etc.
  • Mopped floor in the room (even behind a bed and a desk)
  • Defrosted and clean refrigerator (defrosting must be started the day before!)
  • Emptied and washed kitchen cabinet
  • Student returns borrowed linens to a maid

A student hands in  CHECK-OUT ticket signed by cleaning lady, a residence card, and a key back to the accommodation office, or reception.
